75 Trees for 75 Years!

One way of celebrating and marking the 75th Anniversary of St Lawrence Church was the launch of the “75 Trees for 75 Years” project in October 2008.  This project encourages individuals, or groups of people, from the Church or local community to plant a favourite tree in either private or public land.  The Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Brian Crowe, planted the first tree of the project, an Acer pseudoplatanus Brilliantisimum, in front of the parish centre following the 10.00am Parish Eucharist on Sunday 12th October.

We hope that many will be enthused by this idea, which also will help us to become more aware of our role as stewards of God’s creation.

A tree could be planted, for example:
-  in a private garden
-  in a family, friend or neighbour’s garden
-  at a residential home
-  at a care centre.

To help those of us not able to plant a tree personally, the London Borough of Hillingdon has promised to assist us.  We are fortunate in having strong links with Council members and staff who will give advice about purchasing a suitable specimen, plant the tree for the donor, provide the necessary protection, guarantee it for two years and care for it during its lifetime.  Possible sites could be:
-  in a street
-  at a school
-  in a park
-  in the Eastcote Conservation Area.
Of course, this process will be more expensive than planting by private arrangement, so people may wish to club together to sponsor a tree-planting.  This should cost from £140.

Once you have planted your tree (or have had one planted for you),
the site will be marked on the Parish map at the back of the Church, and a record kept of participants in the scheme.
