Lunch Club

We met on a cold, wet, blustery day in November to join friends at the Lunch Club. Warm and settled in the hall, we enjoyed an autumnal meal of cottage pie followed by delicious apple crumble and custard. Tea or coffee and mints rounded things off as we checked our answers to Terry’s seasonal quiz questions about November, fires and fireworks.

Film Club

‘Save The Cinema’ was the film that entertained the Film Club at their October 2023 meting. Based on a true story, it tells how Liz Evans, leader of a Youth Theatre Group in Carmarthen, began a campaign in 1993 to save the Lyric cinema from closure. Eventually she and a local councillor managed to enlist the help of Steven Spielberg. They secured a special premier for Jurassic Park, which was shown marginally ahead of the London premier. The Lyric cinema survived!

Flower Festival

celebrating the renewal of our church building

Many thanks to all who helped with, exhibited and visited the very successful Flower Festival on Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June including the Evensong on the Sunday afternoon.

The displays all looked wonderful, despite the hot weather and the standard was very high.

The joint winners were No. 5 'The Cross' created by Claudia Ciornei, assisted by Linda Garwood, on behalf of Ruislip Baptist Church and No.9 'Watermelons' by our very own Poppy Owusu.

It was great to welcome so many people from our local community into our newly renovated church and meet & chat with them, as they enjoyed the tasty refreshments.

Blessing of church works & re-dedication

On Saturday 13th May 2023, we were delighted that the Rt Revd Lusa Nsenga-Ngoy, Bishop of Willesden, was able to join us to lead a service of blessing and rededication of our church building following the completion of our ambitious renovation project. We were also very pleased to welcome the newly-elected Mayor of Hillingdon, on what was only his first day of official engagements, along with other community leaders.

This special service marked the end of a 7-month £500,000 programme of work which saw the installation of new heating and electrical infrastructure, modern lighting that shows off the interior features, and new audio-visual equipment.

We are enormously grateful to Fr. John Seymour for his hard work and commitment, alongside the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and others, in overseeing this very ambitious project, and for his encouragement to focus on our vision, which sees “the people of Eastcote as the treasure of God”. Our renewed building means we can begin to realise our commitment to extend our community engagement and service.

For further information, you can read the full article about our service of blessing and rededication as published on the Diocese of London website.

Quiz Night

Our latest outing to the Quiz Night at The Ascott Pub. Great fun, a good mix of people...but no win! Better luck next time.

2022 First Communion Group

Six young people have just completed preparation for their first Communion. They enjoyed the regular sessions, some of which were attended by their parents and a group of older people within our congregation to discuss the significance of receiving Communion. They wrote prayers, which will appear in church soon, and undertook some intriguing activities with a parachute!

 Eastcote House Gardens Jubilee Picnic

Many thanks to all who helped on St Lawrence Church, Eastcote’s games stall on 4th June 2022 and to everyone who came to support us. The whole event was a huge success, the sun shone (eventually) and much fun was had by all who took part. We raised £75 in voluntary donations: this was divided between St Lawrence Church, Eastcote and the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens. The organisers send their grateful thanks for our gift to them.

Scenes from our 2022 May Fair

Our very successful May Fair took place on Monday 2nd May, with lots of visitors enjoying a great selection of stalls including plants, books, nail painting, home made cakes and lots more. Refreshments included the ever popular BBQ, organised by the scouts and entertainment was provided by the Bishop Ramsey Jazz Band. A fun day resulted in a profit of approximately £6,000, so well done to the organisation group and thanks to all our visitors.
